Caramel

Caramel

Introduction:
Why go to the store and buy caramel when you can make it at home? It is made up of basic household ingredients and requires very little time. You can eat it with ice cream or on its own. The sugar acts as a ingredient that when melted, creates a gooey consistency that everybody loves with caramel.

Materials:
1 packed cup brown sugar
1/2 cup half-and-half
4 tablespoons butter
Pinch salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Procedure:

Mix the brown sugar, half-and-half, butter and salt in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook while whisking gently for 5 to 7 minutes, until it gets thicker. Add the vanilla and cook another minute to thicken further. Turn off the heat, cool slightly and pour the sauce into a jar. Refrigerate until cold.

Results:
It would be pretty hard to mess this one up. Today we used it as a sauce to put on the melted ice-cream. I think that it was a delicious treat to eat and i would make it again and again at home.
